Hosting Stoke-on-Trent College T Level Tutors at Powell Design & Construction

July 20, 2026

Last Thursday, we welcomed a group of T Level Design, Surveying and Planning tutors from Stoke-on-Trent College into our office for an industry upskilling visit.

As a business made up of apprentices, university graduates, and even a lecturer, we've always been passionate about hosting experiences and opportunities for local education settings.

We normally host students, but this time it was the tutors who wanted to visit and catch up with what we're doing in the industry at the moment!

Opportunities like this are helpful for everyone. There's often a real gap between what's taught in the classroom and what the daily running of a working architectural and construction practice actually looks like.

Rather than bringing students in directly this time, the visit was designed to give the tutors themselves a genuine, real-world look at what we're doing in our profession, so they can take that insight straight back into their teaching and pass it on to their students.

During the visit, we talked through some of our current projects, the software and digital tools we rely on daily, and the practical challenges involved in delivering complex work on real sites, for real clients. We also spent time on something that doesn't always get enough attention in education: employability and soft skills. Communication, teamwork, professionalism, and problem-solving are the things employers (just like us) actually look for, often just as much as technical knowledge — great knowledge to pass back on to students who'll soon be coming out of education and looking for work.

Supporting the Next Generation Locally

We're strong believers in supporting local Staffordshire education.

We've agreed to run further guest talks and workshops at Stoke-on-Trent College in the new academic year, giving the students direct access to our experience and insights.

Construction and architecture are industries that are changing fast, and the students training now are the ones who'll be shaping how our towns and buildings look in years to come. Giving them a genuine head start benefits the whole industry.

Thank you to the Stoke-on-Trent College T Level team for arranging the visit, and to the tutors themselves for the lovely gift and for being so engaged and invested throughout the day. It made hosting them a genuine pleasure.

Interested in Working With Us?

If you're part of a school, college, or training provider and would like Alexandra, or another member of our team, to host a visit, give a talk, or run a workshop for your students or staff, we'd love to hear from you.

With the demands of running the business day to day, our availability for free guest visits and talks is unfortunately limited each year, but we do offer paid engagements for schools and colleges looking for more regular input.

Please reach out to discuss our availability and the opportunities we can offer for the coming academic year.
